Kyu-seok Oh, a former consultant at Monitor in South Korea who spent a decade with the firm, in December 2011 was named president at Daelim Industrial to oversee the company’s management support division. His promotion was one of three high-profile appointments of former Monitor consultants in the top ranks of South Korean companies noted by the country’s mainstream media.
Kim Jae-yeol, who spent two years with Monitor, was appointed president of Samsung Engineering in December. Before taking this post, he was president of Cheil Industries, an affiliate of Samsung. He also became chairman of the Korea Skating Union in 2011.
A third Monitor alumnus, Luke Kang, was named senior vice president and managing director of the Korean unit of the Walt Disney Company in February 2011. Kang was at Monitor for four years in the 1990s and subsequently held senior management posts at MTV Networks Asia and Live 365, an Internet radio company based in the United States.
Kang said in a company statement about his appointment at Disney: "The combination of Disney's award-winning content together with Korea's dynamic digital landscape provides an amazing platform for growth. This role represents an exciting opportunity to increase Disney's presence in Korea and connect with Korean consumers in a deeper, richer and more relevant way."
