Clothing retailer Gap plans to open a flagship store in a prestigious Hong Kong neighborhood in an attempt to increase its sales in Greater China as it closes stores in the United States, USA Today reported. Torsten Stocker, a Monitor partner based in Hong Kong, told the newspaper that Hong Kong is an important brand-building showcase for foreign retailers.
Stocker told the newspaper that there are many tourists from mainland China visiting Hong Kong that it makes the territory an important stage for retailers. "It's quite important to go in there with something that makes an impact and gets people talking," he said.
