Your Role At Monitor

The size, structure, and composition of a case team can vary greatly across projects.  This is driven by client needs and the complexity and scope of the project.  The degree of variability across case teams makes it difficult to describe the ‘typical’ team; however, there are a core set of roles that exist on most case teams.

  • Case Team Members: Case Team Members largely focus on gathering and processing the data the team needs to inform its strategic recommendations.  They are generally organized into modules of work, and report directly to a Module Leader.
  • Module Leader: A case will often have multiple modules of work – discrete work streams focused on some aspect of the client problem.  Module Leaders are responsible for these modules of work, and focus on executing an analytical plan to create insights for the client.  They will often manage one or more Case Team Members, and generally work under a Case Team Leader.
  • Case Team Leader: The Case Team Leader serves as the central node between the client, Monitor’s senior leadership, external vendors, and all members of their case team.  They integrate the various modules of work on the case team, while partnering with the client and team to develop recommendations.  Project management skills are critical for the Case Team Leader. They are supported throughout by the Global Account Manager.
  • Global Account Manager: The Global Account Manager on a case team is responsible for managing the relationship between Monitor and the client, and will often oversee multiple projects simultaneously with the client. Generally the most experienced consultant on the team, the Global Account Manager becomes a trusted advisor to the client.

While this structure can sound quite hierarchical (the Case Team Member reports in to a Module Leader who in turn reports to a Case Team Leader), in practice teams can feel quite flat.  Work is frequently done across the team, with everyone coming together to discuss findings, implications, and recommendations.

While the roles described on these pages can sound quite static (a Case Team Member does this, a Case Team Leader does that), it’s often more of a spectrum of activities that are assigned to an individual.  For instance, an experienced Module Leader may take on tasks that are more traditionally suited for a Case Team Leader.
