The variety of experiences you’ll have as a Monitor consultant is unparalleled: You may be working on an innovation strategy for a Fortune 50 retailer one month and helping a foreign government identify opportunities for economic growth the next. This experience provides a truly world-class business education.
We consider breadth of experience along several key dimensions:
- Content Area/Types of Problems: To create tailored solutions for our clients, we draw upon a variety of business disciplines—from corporate strategy and marketing to innovation or organizational design. This approach gives our consultants the opportunity to not only work across disciplines, but to specialize and develop deeper expertise in content areas of particular interest to them. We help our consultants gain exposure and contribute to our different knowledge domains—creating competitive advantage for our employees, our firm and our clients. - Industry: Monitor works across business sectors, in the private and public spheres. Our clients include industry-leading Fortune 500 companies, non-profit organizations and all levels of government. And because we don’t organize by industry, our consultants have the opportunity to work across industries and sectors. For more on our industry expertise, click here .
- Geography: Our clients are global organizations, and we serve them globally. Our consultants have the opportunity to experience our global reach in a variety of ways, from project-specific travel to permanent office transfers. For more on our global reach, click here.
Moreover, we encourage our consultants to develop their leadership profiles early on in their career at Monitor. This manifests itself in two ways:
On one hand, this means that we encourage and coach our consultants to assume leadership roles in the work they do for our clients. The ability to “own” a problem, to lead and develop teams to identify and assess solutions, and to counsel our clients on the appropriate course of action is a key element of our working model.
On the other hand, we also place strong emphasis on internal leadership. From an early stage in their career, we encourage consultants to begin taking on significant responsibilities as leaders within the firm. For example, some consultants may be asked to lead recruiting efforts at their alma mater. Others take on responsibility for leading career development programs, or manage their office community. In fact, the leadership profile of our consultants is so important to our success that it is a critical criterion in career advancement decisions.
