Monitor Statement: Regarding F.A.R.A. Registration

May 6, 2011

CAMBRIDGE, MA (May 6, 2011)– Monitor Group, a global management consulting firm, said today that it is registering some of its past work in Libya, as well as recent work with Jordan, with the U.S. Department of Justice in accordance with the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).

These decisions reflect a thorough fact-finding and legal investigation initiated by Monitor after issues concerning its work in Libya were raised earlier this year.  The investigation, conducted by the law firm of Covington & Burling, included a review of Monitor engagements with foreign governments.  That review concluded that some elements of Monitor’s work in Libya from 2006 through 2008 should have been registered under FARA.  It also became apparent that a more recent item of work on behalf of the Kingdom of Jordan should have been registered. Monitor will now take all appropriate measures to remediate these errors.

Regarding today’s action, Monitor’s Managing Partner, Stephen M Jennings, said: “Monitor supported, during a period of genuine promise, the processes of reform and modernization in Libya.  We made some mistakes along the way. While we stand by the majority of our work in and for that country, we have been resolute in our determination to find the facts, remedy errors, and ensure that we learn from them.”

Jennings said the firm would also initiate several changes to its business practices, including enhanced management training and resources regarding compliance issues.

“Monitor is committed to ensuring that we consistently live and manifest the values, ethics and standards that have characterized our Firm for more than 25 years,” said Jennings.
